According to the Bible, Jesus’ (pbuh) first miracle was turning water into wine at a wedding. Is this what we think of when we picture a man of God, or a man considered to be God? The Bible is filled with tales of great men doing evil due to their indulgence in wine and alcohol, so why would a righteous man aid others in their intoxication? The Bible tells us that John the Baptist (pbuh) never drank wine. This indicates that he felt that it was something to be shunned. The group that Samson belonged to, the Nazirites, abstained from alcohol, as well. Did these people have a higher moral standard than Jesus (pbuh)? It seems unlikely that Jesus (pbuh) would use his God given gifts in this manner.
