Why are there so many myths and misunderstandings about Islam? And are these just misunderstandings or are they intentional? There is no doubt that many Muslims and non-Muslims have spread falsehoods about Islam without malicious intent. And it also without doubt that many people have intentionally misled others about Islam. There are a multitude of people who know that truth, but they allow people to believe in myths. We should consider why that is. Why would there be so many lies about Islam? Why are these lies widespread without them being corrected? More importantly, if Islam is untrue, why are so many myths about Islam necessary? Who proves that something is false, by using false evidence?
People lie in order to conceal the truth. They lie because a lie is more beneficial to them, than the truth is. Yet the truth can only harm someone who is lying. There is an old saying, “All that glistens isn’t gold.” Well it is also true that not all gold glistens. Sometimes you have to uncover the treasure because it is deeply buried in myths and misconceptions.
Al-Qur’an 61:8 Their intention is to extinguish Allah's Light with their mouths: But Allah will complete (the revelation of) His Light, even though the Unbelievers may detest (it).
Al-Qur’an 61:9 It is He Who has sent His Messenger with Guidance and the Religion of Truth, that he may proclaim it over all religion, even though the Pagans may detest (it).
Take another look at the Religion of Truth. Islam is our natural way of life. It is natural for man to be righteous, to be brotherly/sisterly, to be a good husband or wife, to be a good friend, to be a good neighbor, and to be a good Samaritan. It is natural for man to fight oppression and fight for the oppressed. It is natural for man to give to charity and to help those in need. All these things are what make a good Muslim. This is God’s will for man and when you perform these actions, you are in a state of Islam.
Islam’s every tenet calls for a closeness with God. When you embrace Islam, you embrace your true self and your true purpose in life. When one concludes that there is a God, who can find fault with a system which provides a constant reminder of God? This life is but a test for man. God has given him a soul, he has given man intelligence, and understanding. God has given man a conscience serving as a compass to leads towards righteousness. God has given man, through his Prophets, examples of how one should lead a pious life and God has given man opportunity. Every day that you live, every moment of every day, you are provided an opportunity to seek truth, embrace and accept truth and live truth. Come and explore the truth from God given to all of mankind and to all of his creation, ISLAM.
