9. Muslims hate non-Muslims:
Muslims are told in the Qur’an to tell others about the religion of Islam, but what if the non-Muslim does not accept Islam? Are they forever enemies? Many people have the idea that Muslims have ill feelings towards non-Muslims for not accepting Islam. The first point to be made is that every non-Muslim is not a disbeliever. In the Qur’an, the Arabic word kafir is usually translated as disbeliever. Kafir carries the meaning of one who hides and rejects the truth of Islam. They are those who have been clearly presented Islam, they understand its validity and they continue to reject it. They are like a criminal who knows that it is wrong and against the law to steal, but they do it anyway for they own reasons. So when one reads about a disbeliever in the Qur’an this is the person that it is speaking of, not simply anyone who does not believe in Islam. But if the Muslim propagates his faith to someone and he/she does not believe, he is to tell the non-Muslim, “you keep your way of life and I will keep mine.” The Muslim and the non-Muslim can be friends, partners and patrons of one another. Muslims are taught to respect other people’s beliefs. But Muslims are told not to befriend non-Muslims who make a mockery of Islam and those who try to force Muslims to change their religion. Also Muslims are not to get their religious and spiritual guidance from none other than his fellow Muslims. Only God knows what is in the hearts of man, so it is not a Muslim’s prerogative to treat non-Muslims unfairly because they will not accept Islam.
